What's not to like? One of my favorite authors talking about one of my favorite critters with humor, humility and compassion.
Lloyd Alexander is one of my favorite children's and YA authors. This book is light and fun and entrancing. The reader gets a beautiful impression of Alexander's rural Pennsylvania yard and garden, and he gives sprightly, human characterizations to each individual cat, especially his favorite Heathcliff (whom he compares to Emily Bronte's saturnine anti-hero). Alexander is wonderfully precise and comic in his physical descriptions and personifications. My favorite element of the book is Alexander [...]
It's a charming and at times humorous look at living with cats. I enjoyed the illustrations, seeing the five tigers brought to life. There were times though when I found myself struggling to continue reading. Alexander's writing style does that to me sometimes but I enjoy cats and have enjoyed his fantasies that star cats so I did want to finish this book. It wasn't though the easy read I was expecting from its subject matter and it's slim profile.
It's a lovely wee book all about a couple and their 5 cats. It's not a "story" as such as more of a diary of their day-to-day lives, but it is a lovely book all the same and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The author has a lovely turn of phrase, and a wonderful way of phrasing things. I especially like the "nightclub in the cellar" idea :-)
Another one I'm re-reading with my son.
Okay for the lay, non cat person, general stories of ones cats. But I love cats anyway.
